People reading news typically aren't looking to purchase.

If you want to increase your CTR you might need to group the news, if it's not just a specific niche, into related categories such as auto, etc. so that people are coming for a specific topic which they may be in the buying mood instead of random topics.

so google applique smart pricing on my website ?

Google smart prices ALL AdSense sites, that wasn't my point.

My point was mixed topics tend to generate random ads, random ads don't tend to generate many clicks.

You need to group the content together, if it's not a niche topic, to get more topical ads which should increase CTR

Apart from what incrediBILL has already mentioned, I see news sites as a form of scaper sites, and possibly so does Google. There is one thing being The New York Times, but when Mr Nobody has a "news" site it is a different thing. I find that the latter are normally filled with scraped content. Even the official newspaper sites are guilty of that.

Not enough information.

from google and facebook ..... ctr is 0.20%
You need to separate the numbers for Google and Facebook. Which one performs better?

Same goes for for CTR, and most every other stat.

What's the CTR for visitors from each?

Two years ago, 4000 visits would have equaled about 2600 USD a month. Now it equates to about $250.

Bloody Panda.

One of my sites has similar views per day, but fairs nearly 10 times better. The traffic is organic and nearly all comes from google on keywords all connected to a similar theme, and perhaps this makes the difference (along with the theme as well).
There is always a danger of being considered a scraper site with news. When I read one of the top online newspapers, there's always filler stories that are sold to most the newspapers. Even the big players can't avoid duplicate content.

Whoa, please back up and read what incredibill posted. Earnings have less to do with the amount of visitors to your site. Smart pricing is not something that robs you of earnings you should have earned. Erase both those concepts from your thoughts. Amount of visitors to your site is not really a determining factor of potential income. It's not about traffic. There are other more important factors.

Here is the deal: Go out and learn about affiliate marketing. Here is some of what you need to know to make affiliate marketing (and AdSense) work for you:

1. Understand how much various niches pay. You can only understand this by looking at the payouts per action. You can get an idea by reviewing how many ads appear on the SERPs for various keyword phrases, but it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the payout for each action.

2. Get an idea of the amount of competition there is per click. More competition means less payout.

3. Here is the BIG one that anyone who wants to earn with AdSense needs to know: Understand what keywords fit into the buy cycle of the Internet consumer, understand the content context that cultivates site visitors that are in the buy cycle.

4. Read this post to learn how to earn more with AdSense [webmasterworld.com] more details.

Good luck!
