Want to Earn More with AdSense?
The Answer May Lie Outside of the AdSense Forum 5:01 am on Jun 15, 2009 (gmt 0)
The AdSense forum has lots of good information but there is a lot of awesome information outside of the AdSense forum that will be useful for AdSense publishers seeking to improve their AdSense income. Many of the issues affecting AdSensers, involve answers found on the other forum categories within WebmasterWorld. I'm going to post links to discussions that may be useful to the AdSene publisher who feels they aren't earning enough and want to improve.
In order for AdSense to work, your site visitors, at least a percentage of them, must be interested in buying things. Learning the basics of earning on the web OUTSIDE of AdSense is important in order to earn significantly INSIDE AdSense. There is NO get rich quick recipe. You can't buy this for twenty dollar or find it on a WAHM site. Study.

I was a subscriber. Never really found the value in it besides discounts to conferences, which I am unable to attend now.
Never really found any information in the subscriber forums that couldn't be found elsewhere for free.
This isn't meant to be an item about subscription, but I happily subscribe every year because the information I get (mostly from the *free* forums) and the contacts I've made are well worth it, and I want to support the board and make sure it stays around.
All that said - martinibuster's premise is spot on. Make your site attractive and/or useful to buyers, and you'll do well with AdSense AND affiliate programs.
Off topic:
It is not about getting more for a fee
but about helping YOUR/OUR WebmasterWorld to be kept ad free
and sharing in related forum cost.

If they had an option to donate I would do that. But it's a subscription, not a donation. The annual cost here is triple what I contribute to the local zoo. If they want donations they need to make it more reasonable. This isn't a dating site for crying out loud.
It's too bad this turned into a discussion on subscription because the original post by MB is very interesting. I don't think he intended to use it into a teaser to get people to subscribe... it was just an unfortunate choice of links.
That is why this thread should be in the subscriber forum, since there is not much for us non-subscribers to discuss... except the fact that we don't have subscriptions... ;-)

Discuss this:
In order for AdSense to work, your site visitors, at least a percentage of them, must be interested in buying things. Learning the basics of earning on the web OUTSIDE of AdSense is important in order to earn significantly INSIDE AdSense.
That is the vital point here.
Yes, and another way of putting it might be:
"AdSense is an add-on. It's what you add it to that counts."
Never really found any information in the subscriber forums that couldn't be found elsewhere for free.
I may read other webmaster forums now and then, but I subscribe only to one...
It costs a lot to maintain the FREE information, dedicated servers massive bandwidth, etc. and often the FREE information I've found on WebmasterWorld has saved me countless hours of work trying to figure out some problem which is more than worth the price of the subscription.
I've been a subscriber long before I was a moderator, and I'm still a subscriber even as a moderator because I still find the information more valuable than the time I'm donating to WebmasterWorld.
For instance, the contents linked from this single page maintained by Tedster in Google Search is worth more than the price of any eBook about SEO or AdSense combined and more than worth the price of an annual subscription:
[webmasterworld.com...]
Many of the topics listed on that page will help anyone running AdSense get more traffic and more money, I use that list all the time to make sure I'm keeping up-to-date with the current Google trends.

ADDED: It's inappropriate to turn this thread into a whine-fest about links to articles in the supporter's forum. There is serious and useful food for thought in the opening post with or without following all the links.
It may be time to consider expanding the range of discussions we are participating in. Participating is the best way I know for improving. AdSense performance begins and ends with your website. It's not always about what percentage Google is sharing, how relevant the ads are, or how much advertisers are paying. A large part of what determines how well AdSense performs depends on the website itself. This isn't just about the ideas or recipes of how to find a niche, how to create content either, but the way of thinking that will improve your AdSense performance.
Link development is at the heart of many promotional efforts for increasing readers and rankings. If you want to increase your AdSense performance then you should consider heading over there. None of that great information on how to improve your site is going to be found in the AdSense forum.

New Zealand Exchange Rate Error for June AdSense Payment
8:55 pm on Jun 27, 2012 (gmt 0)
Has anyone checked their 'Payment Issued' details in adsense for June.
I just checked mine as the payment hadn't arrived yet, I usually get it a few days before the EOM.
And they've got the exchange rate wrong, they've reversed it!
So rather than getting 1 : 1.306 (USD to NZD) as I did last month, I'm getting 1 : 0.798 (USD to NZD).
Obviously it could be a display issue but until the payment hits my account I won't know for certain.
Anyway else noticing this error?
It appears to be affecting $NZ payments - here's a link to the Google forum thread, hope that's OK mods?
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/adsense/sxY0rXlAo_g
Heh! They did that to Australians about seven years ago and mailed supplementary cheques about a week or so later [pre-EFT days]
10:16 pm on Jun 27, 2012 (gmt 0)
I also have vague memories of an incorrect rate being used a while back. I seem to remember they adjusted the next month's payment?
You'd think with all the boffins they employ, a simple exchange rate calculation would be straight-forward :-)
You'd think with all the boffins they employ, a simple exchange rate calculation would be straight-forward :-)
But at some point a human being inputs the rate to be used.
3:18 pm on Jun 28, 2012 (gmt 0)
That's a significant error. Hope they correct it soon!
7:00 pm on Jun 28, 2012 (gmt 0)
Well, we've had an update on the adsense forum at Google. They admit the rate was wrong, are working to resolve the issue and will contact impacted publishers via email soon.
A slightly better start to the day than yesterday!
@piatkow, my comment was a little bit tongue in cheek, as yes a human probably does input the rate at some stage. But you would have thought that there would be checks in place to prevent this kind of thing happening especially where the data entry affects outgoing payments? Just a simple alert when the figure is say plus or minus 10% of last month with override, or a second set of eyeballs on the figures. I realise none of these are foolproof but little cost to Google.
I think Barclays gave them their exchange rate =]
9:06 am on Jun 29, 2012 (gmt 0) 11:22 pm on Jul 11, 2012 (gmt 0)
Has anyone got their payment yet?
Google sent an email a week ago saying a payment would be made this week, but so far it's Thursday here and nothing yet.
I received the same email, but no payment yet either.
In my adsense payments, it still shows as 'Adjustment - Other' for my June earnings to be paid at the end of July.
All very confusing and frustrating.
I see my account now shows "Payment issued 17th July"...
1:34 am on Jul 19, 2012 (gmt 0)
Mine too and the money has hit my bank account.
I really can't believe the lack of customer service from Google during this whole fiasco.
Two weeks to fix something like this is really a shame.
The good thing is that payments include June payouts, so it's a good thing to get this a couple of weeks in advance.
The good thing is that payments include June payouts
That's called a get square and you triggered my memory, I think they did the same with me those many years back.
Nice touch!
Yes, I can now see the payment in my account...

Good stuff. BUT which account? AdSense or real MIB?

I used to be like you all.
Today I went out for breakfast, went to the bank, got a couple of cars washed, stopped in the pub for a cold one, came home.
Read this thread, still didn't look to see if my stats are stuck because I'm heading out to tidy up my storage unit, maybe sweep the patio too.
Life after AdSense stats is quite amazing, try it sometime.
I'm an American, dammit, I don't speak C. I speak F.
Blame that on Jimmy Carter.
He started it, didn't follow through with it.

I don't do the F word! Never understood it.
I fed my two babies, changed them, had breakfast, showered, 15km drive to the nearest post office, then food and present shopping, came home (checked Adsense) had lunch, quickly checked again. Worked on my website, occasionally flicked over to adsense, gone out and pruned some of the wisteria, weeded the vegetable patch, slicing up slugs, worked on a new chicken coop, back indoors, checked Adsense, fed and played with the babies (Mrs is home full time to look after them during the day), read them stories, removed a tick from my daughter, put them to bed. In the barn, sawing wood, sanding, treating timber, back to the computer to check emails, and a quick catch up on Adsense. I seem to be able to work it into my schedule. :)
Still, I keep saying I will check less - becomes a bit addictive, especially when you've made lots of changes and want to see the impact of those changes. I will eventually get it down to once a day, and if I can do once a week I'll know things are going well. :-D
Still haven't checked AdSense - I refuse to be a slave to the madness.
I used to have SySense pop up and report my earnings every 5 minutes, then I slowed it to 15 minutes, then SySense went away and I went cold turkey.
Maybe I'll check it before the month ends, probably around PIP time.
She didn't say that she says the F word. She said that she speaks F.
I'm an American, dammit, I don't speak C. I speak F. I just don't get it. It could mean "I don't speak Crap, I speak Facts." But what that has to do with being American, I do not know. So I have no idea what C and F is supposed to mean.
C=Centigrade or Celsius
F=Fahrenheit
Simple temperature stuff.
Also, I do speak the F word. Prodigiously. And in this case, I'm not referring to Fahrenheit.

Embedding Adsense Code with jQuery
Does it violate Adsense Program Policy? 7:50 am on Jul 7, 2012 (gmt 0)
I want to know if it is against the Adsense Program Policies to embed Adsense code using jQuery?
I want to append adsense code on my page dynamically after the first paragraph of content which can be done easily with jQuery.
Not too sure if it violates Adsense Program Policy?
msg:4473450

Against the policy, and appending Adsense code wouldn't work.
How does embedding dynamically vs. static embedding violate the policy?
It shouldn't be a problem that I'm aware of but it probably bears re-reading the policies to make sure, but as long as you aren't altering the code or doing anything forbidden like pop-ups, floating ads, etc. it should be fine.
I dynamically embed AdSense but I do it server side, not in Javascript, but which method is used shouldn't really matter IMO.
The only way to really be sure is to ask an AdSense rep.
msg:4473590
4:22 am on Jul 8, 2012 (gmt 0)jQuery is client-side. Appending the code itself won't even work. You can append an iframe that has the adsense code, but using iframe is against policy. Also you can switch to the DFP async code and call 'gpt.js' after appending the ad code, but as always best thing to do is to contact Adsense first..

You may want to translate the German if you can't read it, but here's one supposed solution to using jQuery with AdSense which is a year old so who knows if it still works:
[software-solutions-juergens.com...]
Whether it's permitted or not is another question, but it seems technically doable.
msg:4473596
5:18 am on Jul 8, 2012 (gmt 0)That solution moves the adsense iframe. If the OP meant that, I stand corrected. Otherwise, Adsense code uses document.write and AFAIK it's not possible to append it with jquery.

All stats gone from adsense
msg:4477182
4:29 pm on Jul 19, 2012 (gmt 0)Hi, I just logged into my account for the second time today, and all stats have disappeared, they were there this morning, now it's all zeros, even for the all time stats.
Anyone know what's going on?
I see that too. Everything in this month is 0. I do see next payment and most recent payment.

Let's start praying. :)

After a browse of Adsense stats this morning, followed by two urgent and eventful trips to the toilet, my bowels have now returned to normal.
In fact what started out looking like a huge Adsense disaster, today is beginning to shape up as an extremely good one. As they say, "it's not over until the fat lady sings", or something like that.

I get suspicious when I see outages like this that should be completely unrelated and yet they happen together. It makes you wonder at the infrastructure behind them and if they are indeed linked in some manner. The last time it happened Analytics was out when ebay was launching their new dashboard and my host had a temporary glitch in providing stat logs, all for the exact same period of time.

4000 visitors a day from USA And europ but very low earning
8:45 am on Jul 16, 2012 (gmt 0)
hello guys my website receive 4000 visiors a day from google and facebook but earning very low yesterday i've get only 0.74 euro from 20 clicks and ctr is 0.20%
my niche is news related .
i don't know what's problem please help me ):
People reading news typically aren't looking to purchase.
If you want to increase your CTR you might need to group the news, if it's not just a specific niche, into related categories such as auto, etc. so that people are coming for a specific topic which they may be in the buying mood instead of random topics.
so google applique smart pricing on my website ?
9:49 am on Jul 16, 2012 (gmt 0)
Google smart prices ALL AdSense sites, that wasn't my point.
My point was mixed topics tend to generate random ads, random ads don't tend to generate many clicks.
You need to group the content together, if it's not a niche topic, to get more topical ads which should increase CTR
Apart from what incrediBILL has already mentioned, I see news sites as a form of scaper sites, and possibly so does Google. There is one thing being The New York Times, but when Mr Nobody has a "news" site it is a different thing. I find that the latter are normally filled with scraped content. Even the official newspaper sites are guilty of that.
9:20 pm on Jul 16, 2012 (gmt 0)
Not enough information.
from google and facebook ..... ctr is 0.20%
You need to separate the numbers for Google and Facebook. Which one performs better?
Same goes for for CTR, and most every other stat.
What's the CTR for visitors from each?
Two years ago, 4000 visits would have equaled about 2600 USD a month. Now it equates to about $250.
Bloody Panda.
One of my sites has similar views per day, but fairs nearly 10 times better. The traffic is organic and nearly all comes from google on keywords all connected to a similar theme, and perhaps this makes the difference (along with the theme as well).
There is always a danger of being considered a scraper site with news. When I read one of the top online newspapers, there's always filler stories that are sold to most the newspapers. Even the big players can't avoid duplicate content.
2:23 pm on Jul 17, 2012 (gmt 0)
>>>so google applique smart pricing on my website ?
>>>Two years ago, 4000 visits would have equaled about...
Whoa, please back up and read what incredibill posted. Earnings have less to do with the amount of visitors to your site. Smart pricing is not something that robs you of earnings you should have earned. Erase both those concepts from your thoughts. Amount of visitors to your site is not really a determining factor of potential income. It's not about traffic. There are other more important factors.
Here is the deal: Go out and learn about affiliate marketing. Here is some of what you need to know to make affiliate marketing (and AdSense) work for you:
1. Understand how much various niches pay. You can only understand this by looking at the payouts per action. You can get an idea by reviewing how many ads appear on the SERPs for various keyword phrases, but it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the payout for each action.
2. Get an idea of the amount of competition there is per click. More competition means less payout.
3. Here is the BIG one that anyone who wants to earn with AdSense needs to know: Understand what keywords fit into the buy cycle of the Internet consumer, understand the content context that cultivates site visitors that are in the buy cycle.
4. Read this post to learn how to earn more with AdSense [webmasterworld.com] more details.
Good luck!

Adsense - Wester Union #, any ideas?
No clue on what this is 10:57 pm on Jul 5, 2012 (gmt 0)
Hi webmasters, I'm posting this here because it is related to Adsense. Since the stolen cashed cheque that Adsense offered to investigate (twice) but never did, I switched to WU payments.
Shortly after that the payments had a "message" being this just a number. Since that time EVERY payment has a message, another number. I'm always asked what it is and if such number has some use to me, I ask this myself.
Any of you receiving this numbers as message along the WU payment? thanks in advance.
you need that number so you could claim your adsense payment from any western union branch.
11:58 am on Jul 8, 2012 (gmt 0)
Thanks, but actually is another number. There is one, the payment number that serves you for that, but when I visit the WU office they say "there is a message for you in this payment... ohhh weird, it is just a number, do you know that this is?" and I have no clue about this.
So, there is a WU number and a message with another number that still nobody knows what is it for... strange.
In certain countries there is a "test" question that needs to be answered in order to verify you are the true recipient. Could that be it? Here's what Google says:
In certain countries, you may be required to provide the answer to a test question when picking up your Quick Cash payment. This is an additional step to ensure that your payment is transferred securely. You can find this information by examining your Statement of Earnings, found under the 'details' link of the 'Payment issued' line on your Payments page. The answer to the test question will always be the 10 digit number labeled 'Customer ID' found in the top right corner of your Statement of Earnings.
Interesting, in my case the # changes from payment to payment, so it is not the customer id or publisher id... strange... I was hoping to enter the adsense lotto

Google: Filtering Ads to Prevent Low Paying Ads is a Myth
What is Your Opinion? 2:02 am on Jul 9, 2012 (gmt 0)
A post in the Official AdSense blog [adsense.blogspot.com] states that their Chrome AdSense toolbar now enables publishers to block ads directly from the toolbar. But the blog post also notes that blocking ads to increase earnings is a waste of time:
It?s a myth that filtering ads can prevent ?low-paying ads? from appearing...
What the heck? :o
How do you feel about that? Is blocking ads for the purpose of increasing earnings a waste of time? What is your opinion?
Not a waste of time at all.
If my site was flooded with one of those fat belly adverts, no-one will click on it. By removing it allows other adverts to appear, and more likely to be clicked on.
If someone says otherwise, then they are pulling my kindling limb.
Martini Mate:
their Chrome AdSense toolbar now enables publishers...
Are they keywords? Dripping with the all consuming monster Google?
10:22 am on Jul 9, 2012 (gmt 0)
The full sentence reads
It?s a myth that filtering ads can prevent ?low-paying ads? from appearing, so as always, we recommend blocking only those ads that you feel are unsuitable for your users.
That is believeable. If you believe that "loose fat" ads or similar are not suited to your site then G is recommending that you block them.
For sure, those type of ads are generating income for G and by implication, for some webmasters.
I understand the full sentence to be saying something along the lines of in general G will place the highest (in their experience) paying ads on your site. Only block them if you believe they are not performing on your site.
I certainly don't block ads that pay pennies per click in the hope that they will be replaced by attractive ads that pay more. Off topic ads are another matter entirely.
2:51 pm on Jul 9, 2012 (gmt 0)
Some years ago I was obsessive about my filtering ads and guessing which ones paid low and which paid high (I have extensive experience in AdWords which does give me a bit of extra knowledge as to some niches) as well as worrying over other aspects, and you know what, no matter what I did, the earnings were essentially the same. Maybe little rises, but nothing huge. So I have given it all up. The only time I'll block an ad now is if it's very obviously inappropriate for the site, or not working (I've had issues with a couple of rich media ads that just display as blank with nothing but the blue arrow)
This past year I pretty much enabled everything to run everywhere, and while my CTR is down, my EPC is more than double what it's been in any previous year.
The issues around my site, and placements and color - those are things I do worry about and obsess over, but Google does know more about serving ads than I do, and the less I try to tweak the dials, the more money I make and the less stress I have.
So yea, in my experience, it's a myth.
I never block an ad, and I believe blocking ads does nothing but cut your earnings.
If a belly-fat ad appears on your site and no one clicks it, Google's algo takes that into consideration next time it is in the auction. If no one is clicking the belly-fat ad, Google will stop displaying the ad, even if it has the highest bid.
By trying to guess which ads are bad for your site, and blocking them, you are reducing the number of ads competing for a spot on your site, thus driving down the winning bid and thus your earnings.
Google's algo knows a lot more about the user and ad performance than we do. In the long-run the best paying/clicked on ads will be displayed and you will make the most money.
I block the belly fat ads because I hate them. I don't care how much they might pay, I don't want them on my sites.
In one niche, I block advertisers who are in competition with a friend of mine. He never asked me to do that, but my own emotional logic compels it!
Well yea, those reasons make sense. I block ads just cause I don't like 'em too.

I've written about this before and it has been discussed before but I just can't solve this problem and it plagues my adsense reports so I thought I'd ask one more time(other thread is closed) in hopes of finding a solution to my single impression per day on non-existant domains problem.
Every day five domains that are not registered, two of which have NEVER been registered and three that haven't existed in several years, register a single pageview in my adsense reports and as you can imagine it throws the averages off a good deal.
- No, there is not cache to be found with these domain names
- Yes, I've asked Google for help but received no reply
- Yes, I've asked my host for help but the sites aren't registered so...
- There is no temporary page up on these domains, they return 404 and are available for purchase by anyone, have been for many years (2 have never been registered).
Other ideas?

If so, if anyone copied that code anywhere and activated it you could see activity on the reports.
Did the Internet Archive make copies of your site?
I'd like to know the answer to something very similar. A domain that had AdSense removed 18 months ago that averages one, never more than two, clicks nearly every day. Never any earnings!
11:27 am on Jul 2, 2012 (gmt 0)
Never more than two, only rarely more than one and sometimes it appears with no impressions at all like it did today...
www.example.com: impressions = 0, clicks = 0, earnings = $0.00
This domain simply does not and has never existed, anywhere, for anyone so how or why it is showing up in adsense is dumfounding. It's been available to be registered since the first day I saw an impression and there is no record of it ever having been owned/registered.
I've answered this before. It's because of incorrect iframe redirect.

Is it available, and if not can this get put into the development lifecycle.
Cheers
Just because it is not here now does not mean it is going away, but until you do see it here, you will have to go back to the old interface to perform some of those tasks.
Fwiw, bring email management into this UI is one of the leading requests we have gotten.
Will the email subscription management details be available in the Beta version at a later date?
Thanks again!
